TOO BEAUTIFUL TO SIGH

Why do you stand so quiet and sad beside life's millstream run,
Dark and bent as a dying tree against the setting sun?
Why must you try to hold and bear the cares of all mankind,
Why claim that you alone can see when all around are blind?

Chorus

No-one can truly stand alone and watch the world go by,
Nor the need of each of us for human love deny,
The fish must in the water swim, without it he will die,
And you, my love, are far too young, too beautiful to sigh.

I know your heart has broken been, I know you've closed the door
And given notice to the world that you can trust no more.
I've seen you man your battlements, I've watched you build your wall,
But in the depths of night I've heard your soul in anguish call.

Chorus

No-one can truly stand alone and watch the world go by,
Nor the need of each of us for human love deny,
The fish must in the water swim, without it he will die,
And you, my love, are far too young, too beautiful to sigh.

Just as the golden eagle must soar upon the wing
And the lark must to the heavens fly and just as sweetly sing,
You were born to lead the dance in sunshine and in rain;
So cast aside your veil of gloom and learn to love again.

Chorus

No-one can truly stand alone and watch the world go by,
Nor the need of each of us for human love deny,
The fish must in the water swim, without it he will die,
And you, my love, are far too young, too beautiful to sigh.
